Losing Touch: an Open Letter to Colorado State House Majority Leader Amy Stephens
You recently pushed through, with the co-sponsorship of Democratic Senator Betty Boyd, SB 11-200 a measure designed to set up a Colorado Health Benefit Exchange (now known by many in Colorado as Amy Care). In this legislative session Colorado Cap & Trade was also passed with your enthusiastic leadership and support. In doing so you violated the most basic principles of truly representative government. Both measures were passed over the strong and spirited opposition of many of your constituents. In fact the wants and interests of your constituents (the people who put you in office) were sacrificed to the interests of those who are likely to provide you with more campaign funds. Congratulations you are now bought and paid for!
What happened? You were once a serious subscriber to the ideals of our Founders.
Your actions violated both the spirit and the letter of your oath of office to preserve and defend both the Colorado and United States Constitutions. The hyperbolic reaction you expressed to your citizen opponents were desperate sounding, childish and perhaps a tacit admission of your betrayal. Name calling is usually the last refuge of demagogues and political hacks. You have apparently lost touch with the very ideals of this country’s Founders. Though the concept has escaped you, we are all heirs to their ideals of liberty and limited government.
Obama care has been consistently opposed by both Coloradans and most Americans from its inception. As a legislative enabler, you have emphatically and irretrievably placed yourself in the political camp which is totally antagonistic to our Founding cornerstones of limited government and operating with the consent of the governed.
It is the intention of the undersigned that this open letter receives wide distribution throughout your district.
